 Kearifan lokal yang dimiliki oleh Kabupaten Jayapura, selain memiliki makna tradisi adat ternyata memiliki sejumlah potensi lain yang perlu diangkat untuk dijadikan objek handal, khususnya di bidang pariwisata sebagai salah satu ikon untuk menarik perhatian wisatawan domestik maupun manca negara.
POTENSI Sumber daya alam khususnya dibidang pariwisata yang dimiliki oleh Kabupaten Jayapura sangatlah banyak untuk dapat dikelola seperti Festival Danau Sentani, Pengembangan Kampung wisata Tabanusu serta pencanangan tugu peninggalan perang dunia ke 2 yang ditinggalkan oleh pasukan Amerika Serikat, Belanda, dan Jepang, merupakan bukti upaya pemerintah dalam meningkatkan potensi pariwisata di Kabupaten Jayapura.

Welcome to Sentani Lake Festival and Other Tourist Destination in Papua.
 Papua is one of Indonesia province comprising a majority part of the western half of New Guinea Island and nearby. The province originally covered the entire western half of New Guinea, but in 2003, the western portion of the province, on the Bird’s Head Peninsula, was declared in Jakarta as separate province named West Irian Jaya. The legality of this separation has been disputed, as it appears to conflict with the conditions of the Special Autonomy status awarded to Papua in the year 2000. The status of West Irian Jaya province is not yet resolved as of early 2006.
Archaeological remains of their forebears in the form of stone paintings are found in the village of Tutari, on mounds at the lake banks. In addition, there are also remnants of Japanese as well as Allied war machines in many places in the vicinity of the lake.

It has considerable tourism potential in Papua and is always straghtening up as well as presenting cultural attractions to support the tourism.

 Festival Budaya Danau Sentani 2010 akan diselenggarakan pada tanggal 19 Juni - 23 - 2010 di Kalkote - Sentani - Kabupaten Jayapura - Papua - Indonesia. (Lake Sentani Cultural Festival 2010 will be held on June 19 - 23 - 2010 in Kalkote - Sentani - Jayapura Regency - Papua - Indonesia).
Event Ini merupakan festival budaya dari beberapa kampung (Ondoafi) di sekitar Danau Sentani dan beberapa Kabupaten di Papua sebagai salah satu dari upaya Kabupaten Jayapura untuk mendukung Program Pemerintah Republik Indonesia untuk meningkatkan kunjungan wisatawan ke Indonesia.
