Monuments of World War II Japanese Army in Genyem, Nimboran.
"The Monuments of World War II Japanese Army" was built by the Government of Jayapura Regency to be made as a tourist attraction for commemorate of the history of the death of Major General Masazumi Inada with 6500 Japanese Army (Some sources say there are about 7000-10000 former Japanese soldier civilian employees) in the Genyem region (about 100 km from Lake Sentani) on their way from Jayapura to Sarmi on 1943.
The tragedy occurred the defeat of Japanese Army on the march so-called " tragedy of March ", 90% of Japanese soldiers died of starvation.
In April 1998, a month before the collapse of the Suharto regime, one Japanese student who studied at the University of Indonesia, "Rei Makoto Okawa" visit to Genyem and met with Mr. Martin (Genyem people) who had collected skeletal remains of Japanese soldiers and some remnants of cooking utensils and war since the 1970s, and made a memorial mound on the back of his house.
65 years after the war, memorial built by the Government of Jayapura Regency to commemorate the killing of thousands of Japanese soldiers (ex-former civilian employee) and his soul left alone after the war.
Aside from being a historical tourist attraction, the construction of this monument is also intended as a manifestation of the openness of the Government and People the Jayapura regency in cooperation with all parties and all nations in this regency to build a sustainable and dignified.

The monument is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Ambassador of Japan on June 18, 2010, one day before the opening of Sentani Lake Festival
